Privacy

This page explains what happens to your information when you use this website: what we hold, why, who else sees it, and how to change or delete it yourself.

If you only read this website

We collect nothing about you. We run no analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no Plausible or Fathom, no Meta pixel and no other measurement tool of any kind. We have decided we would rather not know than build a tracking profile of people who came looking for help.

Nothing on these pages loads from anyone else. The text, images, video and fonts are all served from this site's own address, so no third party learns that you read them.

Our server keeps standard logs, which include your IP address, the pages you requested and your browser type. They exist to keep the site running and secure, and we do not use them to identify anyone.

If you join the community

When you join, we keep what you give us: your name, email address, country, phone number if you give one, the date you agreed to our purpose, and whether you asked for our emails. Your password is stored only as a one-way scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the password, not even by us.

We use it to run your account and, only if you ticked the box, to email you about seminars, retreats and new resources. When you join we email you a six-number code, to confirm the address is yours. If it is not confirmed within a day, someone else can join with that address and the unconfirmed account is removed. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. It is kept on the trust's own server in New Zealand.

One cookie. Signing in sets a single cookie of our own that keeps you signed in. It holds no information about you beyond a signed account number, it cannot be read by scripts on the page, and it is never sent to any other website. It is strictly necessary for signing in, so there is nothing to consent to; if you never sign in, it is never set.

You can see, change and delete everything we hold from your account page, without asking us. Deleting your account removes it straight away.

Donations

When you give, you finish on Stripe's own secure page. Your card details are entered there, not here. We never see them and never store them. What you give them is handled under their privacy policy, and they process and store card details on their own systems outside New Zealand.

They tell us the amount, whether it is one time or monthly, your email address and any comment you wrote, and we keep that as a record of your gift. A registered charity has to be able to account for what it received, so a gift record stays even if you later delete your account (it is then no longer linked to you).

When you write to us

If you send a letter from our contact page, it is saved on our own server with what you wrote: your name, email address and place, your message, any answers you added (such as a phone number and a good time to call, or the ways you could help), and the date, so the trustees can read and answer it; a copy may also be sent to the trustees' own email inbox. If you email us instead, we keep what you send in the same way. We keep it so we can answer you and follow up, and we do not use it for anything else. We do not sell, rent or trade anyone's information, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you wrote to us once.

If you write to us about something personal — your health, your family, a hard season — we treat it as confidential and share it only with the trustee or trainer who needs to read it in order to help.

Your rights

The Law of Life Charitable Trust is a New Zealand registered charitable trust, so the Privacy Act 2020 applies to us. Under it you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it where we have no reason to keep it. Members can do all three themselves from their account page.

Otherwise, write to [email protected] and say what you would like. The Act allows us up to 20 working days to respond, and we would expect to be much faster than that.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
